Hobbit Knits - A Collection of Hobbit-Inspired Knitting Patterns

I am thrilled to announce the release of "Hobbit Knits - A Collection of Hobbit-Inspired Knitting Patterns".

PicMonkey Collage22
The eBook contains five patterns, each inspired by a different scene from "The Hobbit".

The "Pony Rides in May Sunshine" fingerless mitts are inspired by the beginning of Bilbo's long journey during which he finds adventures to be quite pleasant. When the travelling becomes more difficult later on, he laments that adventures are not all "pony rides in May sunshine". The mitts feature a cabled cuff and are knit from a cheerful, rustic DK-weight yarn, and are designed to protect one's hands during a long day of holding the reins of a pony.

The Elvish Singing Shawlette is inspired by the warm welcome given to Bilbo and his companions one warm June evening as he and his companions approach the Elvish outpost of Rivendell. This delicate lace shawlette is knit from a single ball of sock yarn.

The Pocketses Vest is inspired by a Hobbit's waistcoat, with a double breast to display plenty of nice brass buttons, as well as two small pockets, just large enough for concealing a magical ring. It is knit primarily in stockinette stitch using worsted-weight wool.

The Mirkwood Satchel features a sturdy linen-stitch body and a long, cabled strap. It also has a cabled pocket on the side and is closed with a zipper. This bag came to mind when reading about Bilbo and his companions needing to carry weeks worth of food and water on their trek through the gloomy, unwholesome Mirkwood forest.

The Beorn Cardigan had a cabled waistband, from which the upper and lower body are picked up and knit. This heavily cabled cardigan is inspired by the wide fireplaces, large mugs of mead, and toast with butter and honey that welcomed Bilbo and Gandalf on their journey home when the visited their friend, Beorn, at Yuletide.

I got The Hobbit for Christmas when I was 12, and I've been a Tolkien fan ever since. I think my favorite scene is the one where they arrive in Rivendell, and the Elves start teasing them in song.

In 8th grade I ordered The Hobbit as a free book club reward because it was the most expensive paperback I could choose--95 cents! What started out as a bargain hunt changed my life forever. I’d never read anything like it, and nothing matches it since.

My favorite scene is where Bard the bowman bravely stands his ground amidst all the panicked chaos, and suddenly the bird flies to him and tells him where to aim his last arrow at Smaug. I get chills just mentioning it!

I love all your Hobbit Knits designs, especially Beorn. Please enter me in your contest. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! Thank you!

I am a lifelong Tolkien fan. My father first gave me the book when I was 10. The giant spiders still scare the heck out of me! My favorite scene is when Bilbo chooses to spare Gollum.

I love these designs, particularly Beorn!

I first read the book when I was fifteen - if I recall correctly, it was in early June, 2007. I know this because I used runes in my diary for days afterwards…

For my favorite scene: Choosing my favorite anything is like choosing a favorite child, but for sheer happy-factor I’d have to say it’s the arrival of the dwarves at Bag End, with the hoods and the mayhem and the food. I have a lot of other favorite scenes, but this scene is the point where I curl up in my chair secure in the knowledge that I am reading The Hobbit again, and it is going to be just as wonderful as it has ever been.

Has it really only been five years since Tolkien took over my life? I guess it has.

Thank you for running this giveaway!

I first read the book as an adult, probably in my early twenties. I remember reading it again to my son when he was first-grade age, so I must have been around twenty-nine or thirty at that point.
As with the previous commeter, my favorite scene is early in the book, as the dwarves begin arriving at Bilbo's home and he begins to see that he is about to become embroiled in quite an adventure!

Hi, I saw your post in the Ravelry Blog Forum group about your giveaway, those patterns look really wonderful!
I have to say I have never read the Hobbit or any of Tolkien, (I rememeber my brothers reading them all), so am I automatically disqualified from this giveaway? ah well, fingers crossed that I am not ruling myself out, I promise to get the books and start reading them, so now you have a potential convert to Tolkien and Hobbits and LOTR!
Good luck with the giveaway and the pattern book!

I don't remember how old I was when I first read the Hobbit, but I was enchanted by the scene in the goblin cave with the riddles (I've always loved word games) and was as outraged as Gollum when Biblo asks, "What have I got in my pocket?" "No Fair! That's not a riddle!" I thought, just like Gollum!

I have a group of friends and we always go to the Ren Faire together. My project this year is to knit each one of them something they can wear to the Faire this fall. Several of your patterns would be perfect -- the vest, the cabled jacket, the fancy shawl. They're all great!
